Jimmy loved painting since from his childhood, his father tried hard to find an opportunity for him. Finally, in the 70's, he was admitted to be the apprentice under Master of cinema painting, Mr. Lau Wai Tong to learn how to paint the cinema billboard. Due to the hardship in Hong Kong at the time, Jimmy was trained up from apprenticeship and needed to stay at the workshop 24/7 and required to do the chores, and at night time he slept besides the boards without a bed.
Mr. Lau was very strict to Jimmy, but he was an outstanding apprentice, and to reciprocate the teaching of Mr. Lau. In the 80s and 90s, during the peak period of cinema business, Jimmy hand-painted produced a series of classic movie billboards.
